Are the images from digital cameras as good as those from film?

First let’s qualify this by saying that it depends on the digital equipment being used. For purposes of this discussion consumer point and shoot cameras and phones are eliminated. This is still being debated and you will get different answers depending on who you ask. There are die hard film users who believe film is still the best for detail, range of tones, etc. Many will never admit digital is as good or better. On the other hand there are many former film shooters who now swear by digital and have stopped using film. Remember that digital has several advantages, 1) no film, 2) no development/chemicals 3) almost unlimited processing options. At GMg:photo we believe that digital can be as good or better than film assuming the equipment and processing are top notch.

How are GMg:photo fine art prints made?

Our prints are made several ways. 1) Some black & white prints are made using film negatives and traditional ‘wet’ darkroom techniques. These prints are hand printed by the artist. 2) Some negatives are scanned and then processed in the digital darkroom. The final image is printed by a professional photo lab. 3) Images captured digitally are processed in the digital darkroom. The final image is printed by a professional photo lab. Our lab prints our images on real photographic paper or other substrates. They are not ink jet prints.

If I want a fine art print in a size not listed in your store, can I still get it?

In most cases yes. Our images, especially those captured digitally can usually be printed at custom sizes. The only limits are technical ones in regard to retaining quality while increasing size. Use our contact us page to request custom sizes.

Do your fine art prints come framed?

No. At this time we deliver our prints without a matte or frame. We feel that the owner of fine art wants to matte and frame it in the style and dimensions that they choose.
